Greetings cubicle monkeys, hope everyone had a relaxing holiday weekend (I know I didn’t). The next comic has been posted, actually it was posted earlier this morning and I got side tracked working on the next set of scripts.
Of Course that wasn’t the only thing that side tracked me. Problems with the unemployment department were top priority this morning, and come to find out the entire problem could have been prevented if the Tennessee Department of Labor had a clue as to how to design and/or run a website. As most of us know, state and government websites generally serve as informational services.
Evidently TBOL, as I’ll refer to them from here on, seems to be of the mind that less information online is the answer. That’s why this morning when I was finally able to get through without the phone system telling me the call volume is too high and to F-Off, I spent half an hour on hold to be told that the option “YES” I selected on my weekly certification for “Did you receive any vacation pay this week?” should only be used if my unemployment period is temporary and I will be called back to work.
Now folks, I dare you to find that information anywhere on the TBOL website. In fact I’m fairly certain that you will find no documentation that explains in detail the questions asked and how they pertain to the claimant. Of course this whole thing never would have happened had H&R Block not tried to pull a fast one with my vacation pay and paid it out when they were supposed to.
I guess it’s like they say, “Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you”. Been feeling more like the latter as of late.
All that aside I want everyone to be prepared for some down time in the near future. I’m going to be swapping some domain accounts around and also working on an ecommerce setup that will launch a little later when I have things a bit more stabilized. Having to go two full weeks without any income and money flying out the door on bills has rearranged some of my priorities to say the least. More on that as it happens.
Stay Tooned !!!
Yes indeed cubicle monkeys, you read that correctly. It wasn’t by choice I can promise you that.
As most of you have probably read over and over lately, I’ve been in the middle of fighting with H&R Block over the payout of my vacation time which they’ve owed me for way too long. Well, after all the BS I finally got my vacation pay (albeit 2 months AFTER I should have initially received it). Now if any of you have been on, or are on unemployment like me, you know that when you certify for your weekly benefits you have to claim any vacation or sick time payouts you receive, which I did.
After doing so, this week when I went to certify I’m now being told that my entire claim is under review because after two and a half months of receiving unemployment benefits, I all of a sudden claim vacation pay. So now with my claim access shut out I can’t certify for weekly benefits which means rent and bills aren’t going to get paid until this gets resolved. Of course the Department of Labor isn’t open on Labor Day so I have to wait until Tuesday to speak to someone. All this adds up to no money coming in for at least another week if not longer, all thanks to H&R Block, or as I’m going to refer to them from now on “H&R Cock Block”.
So, I get to spend my holiday working on a new page of the website that I hope will bring in some monetary gain. I had planned on rolling all this out slowly over a period of a couple of weeks to make sure all the bugs have been worked out as well as make sure I’ve got all my ducks in a row as far as how I’m going to pull it all off, and still work on the comic at the same time. I’m not going to go into any further details at the moment, because quite frankly I don’t even have the details worked out yet.
Hope everyone has a fun and safe Labor Day, drink a beer and BBQ a burger for me. Now, off to do market research !!!!
There’s just something about being unemployed that takes all the fun out of holiday weekends. Technically I’m self employed, can’t really claim full self employment status until I’ve actually turned a profit. Needless to say I’m not holding my breath on that one.
I want to thank everyone who voted for Cubicle101 over the past two days, as well as encourage everyone to keep it up and also pass the word along to others to check out the comic and vote. Last month Cubicle101 was sitting at an average rank of 500, this month you guys got us to 200. No matter how you stack it that’s a hell of a jump, but there is still a ways to go. I’m working on an incentive program for next months voting run and I will post more details on that as the month goes by.
Onto business, the next comic is posted and all you NOC admins out there should get a good chuckle out of it. Needless to say since this is a holiday weekend I will not be posting a new comic on Monday, so look for the next one on Wednesday (though I may change my mind and post it on Tuesday). Also be on the look out for donation incentive programs which I’ll be rolling out shortly after I’ve ironed out all the details.
Not much else to post on right now, as always I’m working on the comic and future scripts. Beyond that I’m looking forward to cold beer, a hot grill, and more food than my metabolism can handle. Hope everyone has a great, and safe, Labor Day weekend and unless something really pressing pops up I’ll be back on Tuesday. Stay Tooned !!!
The work day ends, only to give way to a new one tomorrow. I’ve put in all I can stand today, been hitting it hard since about 8am today making sure everything is in tune and on time (musician joke) for the rest of the week, especially since we’re moving into a holiday weekend. I will still be posting the next comic in the series on Friday to kick off the Labor Day weekend.
I want thank everyone so far who has been keeping up with voting in the web comic top lists. We’re doing good so far but still lacking greatly in votes, and so far Cubicle101 still has not broken the top 100 which means a lot of you out there still have not voted today and will still need to vote again tomorrow to kick up the rankings. I want to remind everyone again that Cubicle101′s success depends not only myself but all of you fans and readers out there.
Keep up the voting and remember to pass the comic along to others who might enjoy it. Make sure they do the same in addition to voting when they visit. This comic stays online and free because of ad revenue and user traffic. Without those two, this website WILL go offline, and for good. I don’t want that to happen because I enjoy making the comic and I enjoy the fact that others out there like it as well.
That’s all for today, stay tooned !!!!
